Specifically USA lagers (not macro pilsners)
Church Street- magisterium maibock with Great Lakes- eliot ness amber a close second.
Sam Adams Boston lager is midrange.
Shiner Bock is bottom of the list.
I've only had one magisterium last year ,,, a single from the big beer barn so need to revisit that brewery.

Tried a single bottle of Victory festbier from Downington PA. Yea, a leftover from last fall but definately still good. Its called a amber lager and the bottle says special decoction boiling, which I believe is partly how the germans brews are so good. Anyway, its very foamy and the foam sorta taste like a german pilsner. The rest is not bad, just sorta weird , cause it taste are sorta muted with very soft hop bitterness. Its malt sweetness is strongish , but doesnt linger in a bad way. Its different but yet reminds me of sam adams because its color is stronger than its taste. So to me its middle ground type beer like samuel adams. I have noticed that american ambers have less flavor than german pilsners.

Since our boss must like a lager and is a really swell gal , I happened to taste another single worth mentioning. And would like to, having noticed references of non-gentile ancestry of the aformentioned special one. That even though my ancestry profile via siblings does contain a small percentage of said ancestry, I did not wash down matzo balls with this Church Str brewery marzen (octoberfest) with a braided blond holding mugs on the can. And pretty good , but starting to realize I may like hops more than I knew because I like paler hoppier lagers more than I realized my matzo balls bow to our star.... I need mav to right this.

USA VERSES germany. . Friday nights fights
GREAT lakes eliot ness amber lager verses Hofbrau original lager
Yea its a two beer night..lol
Anyway, fuck yea america wins!
But the HB is a decent pale lager with 5.1 abv and the eliot ness is a 6.1 abv amber toasty lager. The higher abv means more malt of some kind was dumped in....no ad-junks in these biers to boost the abv like us macro swill .. but still, I choose the good ole USA

German lager top 5 versUs USA lager top five.

But maybe I need to break them down into pales, ambers, dunkels, dopplebocks. There is no way you can compare a dopplebock to a pale. And some use mostly veinna malts , others are mixing pale malts with munich malts. Personally with my limited knowledge I wish they'd mix veinna and munich and maybe some do.

I think they sell Titos at the local convenience stores now. ...alot closer than the big beer barn...nah,,,,, once a lager luvver always one.

Guess it is beer:thirty

doubt I've had a case or 2 in my whole life, but remember, decades ago, thinking Heineken was something kinda special. Which compared to US pilsners it kinda is. But compared to German lagers it is deficient. The aldi discount german beer of month is much better in my opinion....Wernesgruner pilsner has much good beer flavor

This Mickeys is bottom shelf brew, but I remember thinking it wasn't to bad tasting in my youth. Quite a few reviewers agree. A bit more fizz and bittering hops and it could pass for a cheap german beer. Anyway, nice clean smell and taste for a low price. And also comes in quarts now, instead of 40ies, if you feel like knocking down a big one. So for my taste this gas station malt liquor is better than most USA macro swill.

Metropolitan Magnetron
A german style "black" bavarian beer.
Anyway, decent flavors, nothing overpowering and it all blends together nicely
Made in US, America

German octoberfest showdown!!

Ok, think I've had only three with one last year as a single bottle. Interestly, all three are slightly different versions.
1. Hobrau.... had it in a single serving bottle
And did read that they have lightened this one up for pounding multiple giant mugs at the party. So it was lighter, but incredibly flavorful with dry minerally quality

2. Spaten .... amazing regular marzen lager with beautifully balanced hop-malt flavors

3. Hacker-Pschorr amber marzen... so yea this one is like a german sam adams, so much better but still an amber so malt seems to rule to me.

All great beers and this exercise is more about my preference that rating, which surprised me since I am going 2 1 3. I luv a great regular lager, and the Hofbrau was incredible for a light lager

This Hacker-P amber festbier I got the other day is pretty darn great, though
Truely does make something like Bud Lite seem like the watered down clydesdale piss it is
