Changes to scoring method for LP League beginning May 2014

You may have noticed the LuvinPoker HomeGame Club has been growing by leaps and bounds. Now, as a Showcase Club, we are suddenly seeing many new players in our league games. As the games continue to grow, the way we have been scoring the league has become cumbersome, and I am implementing a simpler, more even handed points system, beginning the first of May.

Beginning with the new month, only the top twenty finishers of each game will score points towards the leader board. Typically, scores below 20th place are either eliminated by higher scores later in the month, or leave the player so far outside the lead that there is no real reason to award points.

The formula will remain the same. However, the multipliers will change. Each game will pay the same amount of points to the top 20 finishers, regardless of the number of entries. This allows the Euro players the same credit for wins on the weekend games as the more US friendly weekday games. So we will be awarding points in a fixed structure . . .

      Position Points
      1 6.71
      2 4.59
      3 3.74
      4 3.13
      5 2.80
      6 2.46
      7 2.28
      8 2.06
      9 1.94
      10 1.77
      11 1.35
      12 1.29
      13 1.24
      14 1.20
      15 1.15
      16 1.12
      17 1.08
      18 1.05
      19 1.03
      20 1.00

For comparison, I ran April's scores with the new method. The top two remained unchanged, while the next five spanned less than a point. This should make for a closer competition, while still giving a fair representation of the players' finishes.
