Don't get me wrong, I liked Foxcatcher. I am a fan of biographical movies. I thought it was well done.... but it was verrrrry slow.

      Maleficent

I'm not a big fan of computer CGI animated flicks, but this one was well done in spite of some not-so-state-of-the-art special effects. It also helped I was able to watch it at home with my grand girls.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

I thought waiting I could avoid the crowds...on the contrary my theater had a good crowd early on a Sunday morning. If you saw the first two, then you owe it to yourself to see this third one on the big screen. While this may be the last of the Bilbo Baggins character, the door has been left open for Peter Jackson to do more films based upon J.R.R. Tolkien's stories.

I need to go see this! I have seen them all and yet, I have been focused on seeing the award contenders.

I saw Still Alice. I would say Julianne Moore is a sure thing for Best Actress. Its an accurate portrait of a brilliant person suffering with a all too common disease. I think everyone should see it. 1/3 people will suffer from dementia as they get older. (https://www.alz.org/news_and_events_f...res_report.asp) Its a very scary # and a scary disease. Educate yourself and be entertained at the same time. On a side note, I have never been blown away by Kristen Stewart as an actress. I enjoyed the pointlessness of Twilight, but it ever really exhibited her true chops. This was the first time I thought she will be around for a long time. Her character was sympathetic and endearing and incredibly well acted.

I also saw American Sniper. Bradley Cooper is perfect. Seriously! Last year he did American Hustle, the year before was Silver Linings Playbook and now this. 3 Oscar nominations in a row. He won't win this year, or at least I doubt it, but he will one day soon find a vehicle that brings him one. Clint Eastwood blows my mind. American Sniper was so well done. They got down and dirty. Age should never matter and I would applaud the director of the film whomever it was, but for an 84 year old man to bring this to life amazes me. I know some are saying this is the greatest war film of all time. I wouldn't say that, who knows. I still think Saving Private Ryan is my favorite, but it still deserves high praise and should be watched.

Oscars-Julianne Moore absolute certainty, Eddie Redmayne will shade Micheal Keaton and Boyhood will edge Birdman as best fim also win best editing, JK Simmons and Patricia Arquette certs for best supports.
