The Favourite Most people who saw this film gave it . Fine acting by Olivia Cole, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, but beyond the acting and some light-hearted comedy I did not see much of any redeeming value in this film which was jam packed with perversion and debauchery from start to finish.

NOTE to Jen...this same guy who directed The Lobster directed this film...need I say more?

Top-notch acting by Bale and Adams...fine supporting cast...some of the story was factual and some was speculation and imagination.

@wabbit - I agree. Super interesting. Nice seeing Bale win the awards. I was surprised.

On the Basis of Sex - a bit slow, but of course, I liked it. Shes got such a strong character and went through a ton. Walked out with even more admiration. Armie Hammer was great in it also.

I loved seeing a crowd of female teenagers in the audience cheering. Nice they care about the history.

Hey @wabbit please tell me what you think of The Favourite when you see it. Normally I would run to the theaters for this, but I waited for my screener because I am not a fan of the director. Again, another critical darling, The Lobster, also the same director and another one I did not care for at all. I agree, Olivia Colman is a rockstar and the cast was great, but not into this style at all. I feel alone, all my friends adore this film!

Not the last film I saw...sorry not to be true to the thread title...but after the results of the GG and now all the Oscar hype for this film I am moved to comment. I fail to see the reason for the praise heaped upon this sub-par B&W film in Spanish (with white subtitles on a light background...truly the mark of accomplished film makers )from South of the border. Perhaps it is Hollywood's way of try to gin up even more sympathy for Mexico and its film makers and actors. The camera was slow moving and spent a good deal of the time with no action in the frame. The characters were not interesting to me and I could not get into the story either. To be honest I only watched the first 80 minutes of this thinking it might get better...it did not. The family central to the plot had a dog which kept crapping in the enclosed driveway, but no one would bother to take the dog outside for a walk. As a result the maid was forever cleaning up after the dog. No damn wonder the father spent much of the film away from his family. I watched on Netflix and perhaps it would be better on the big screen...my screen is a modest 55". I do not recommend it, but watch it if you are so inclined, however, be prepared to be disappointed.

I lasted 10 minutes. Didn't bother to review it because I forgot about it. I wholeheartedly agree.

The Front Runner. I am a big Hugh Jackman fan, but this bored me. Interesting what a front runner Gary Hart was and one scandal blew it. It did encourage me to learn more about Gary Hart. Interesting man.
